by OUT TO LUNCH EVENTS's founder Helene Weinberg
and her partner/spouse, Ray Tomecko, for Progressive Insurance.
“If you can’t act, you can’t do this job.”
said the CEO and hired this team of talented corporate production
actors to help their Customer Service Representatives deliver
award-winning performances that would stand up to the critics
(their customers). The exciting, innovative day-long session
is a crash-course in acting, called “KEEPING IT REAL.”
Coaches share tips of the trade and drilled the CSR’s
in basic R. E. A. L. acting techniques that included: R: Rapport;
E: Entrances; A: Action; L: Lasting impressions. Progressive
Insurance was so impressed with the pilot program that they
have awarded OUT TO LUNCH EVENTS with an on-going training
agreement.  |

15TH ANNUAL AFFORDABLE MEETING® NATIONAL SHOW
is set for September 8-9, 2004 at the Washington Convention
Center, Washington, District of Columbia. This is a FREE trade
show and conference for cost-conscious meeting planners, ATTENDEES
are full-time, part-time and volunteer meeting planners from
organizations of every type and size. EXHIBITORS are hotels,
inns and resorts, university conference centers, unique meeting
sites, CVBs, transportation companies, software companies,
AV companies, DMC, etc. Approximately 1,800 meeting planners

MARGUERITE
FLORSHAM
has been
selected as the sales representative for Sonesta Hotels, Resorts
and Nile Cruises to strengthen its group sales efforts in
the Toronto, Canada region. Ms. Florsham will support the
efforts of Dorothy Kolpak ,
Sonesta's Regional Director of Sales, who is based in Chicago,
Illinois. For the past twelve years Ms. Florsham's company,
Strategy U.S., has represented clients to the meeting, corporate
and incentive markets. A 26-year travel industry veteran,
she is a member of MPI and SITE.

PHILIP
OMMEN
was appointed Director of Sales & Marketing for the Grand
Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in June of this year. Formerly
from Traders Hotel Singapore, he moved on to join Shangri-La
Jakarta, where, as Director of Sales, he was responsible for
re-building the business, principally in the areas of corporate
business and redeveloping the MICE segment. Philip has fifteen
years experience in the hospitality industry. In his new position,
he will report to Mr. Des Pugson, General Manager of Grand
Copthorne Waterfront Hotel (and also Senior Vice President,
Operations, Asia – Millennium & Copthorne International
Limited) and be responsible for all sales and marketing management
of the Hotel.

DANIEL
AMATO
recently joined the Grand Hyatt Washington, District of Columbia
as the General Manager. Mr. Amato is responsible for overseeing
all operations including marketing, sales, finances and employee
relations for the eighteen-year-old, 900-room downtown hotel
and convention center. Mr. Amato has worked for Hyatt in various
positions for 28 years.    |

TEO
has been promoted to Executive Assistant Manager at the Grand
Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore. Clement Teo joined
the hotel in May 2002 as Assistant Director of Food and Beverage
and was promoted to Director of Food and Beverage in September
2002. Clement has demonstrated a combination hands-on/revenue-driven
approach, solid team leadership, and prudent financial management,
which has resulted in excellent results. Last summer he was
responsible for the complete operational set-up of the property's
new 65,000 square foot Waterfront Conference Centre. Clement
has seventeen years of experience and has held management
positions with the Westin Stamford & Westin Plaza, Batam
View Beach Resort, Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort and Goodwood
Park Hotel.   |

joined the Hospitality Management Corporation (HMC) portfolio
of managed properties. The Green Oaks Hotel features 284 guest

over 13,000 square feet of meeting space; full-service restaurant;
lounge; two outdoor pools; fitness center/health club; tennis
courts; basketball court; saunas; and a golf course, adjacent
to the hotel.  |

Minutes
from downtown, the 374-unit CLARION HOTEL SPORTS COMPLEX,
formerly known as the Adam's Mark Hotel Kansas City, is now
owned by Arrowhead Hospitality. Jim Hanson is leading the executive
team as the General Manager. Across from the Truman Sports Complex,
and home to the city's professional sport team, the hotel features
both indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, cocktail lounge, fitness
center, business center, the Pantry Restaurant, and nineteen
meeting rooms totaling 16,000 square feet for groups of up to
one thousand.   |
The
256-room five-star SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, THE MARINA, CAIRNS,
formerly the Radisson Plaza at the Pier, in North Queensland,
Australia is undergoing an extensive refurbishment, costing
approximately US$17.6 million. Improvements scheduled for
completion by January 2005 include the hotel's existing guest
rooms; a new lobby; 36 new Horizon Club rooms with ocean view
bathrooms and large terraces, overlooking the yachts and mountains;
a Horizon Club lounge; four new conference rooms; and a new
restaurant and a fitness center. The hotel adjoins the fully-refurbished
Pier Shopping Centre with open-air restaurants, 4,305-square-foot
swimming lagoon and world-class marina. Only a ten-minute
drive from Cairns International Airport and an ideal base
for visits to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef
and Daintree Rainforest. The Conference facilities offer a
400-seat ballroom, three private boardrooms and two breakout
rooms with seating capacity for 150 guests.  |

WESLEY
BAGAROZZI,
a 26-year old New York native recently won the Spirit of Service
award from the Arizona Office of Tourism, which is presented
to the tourism employee who best exemplifies the Arizona tourism
industry's commitment to exceptional customer service. Bagarozzi,
the night time Front Desk Supervisor for the Westin La Paloma
Resort and Spa, is a full-time student at Northern Arizona
University, studying hotel management, but attending classes
via video or the Internet at Pima Community College campuses.
"I've always liked the business," said Bagarozzi,
who started as a valet at the Sheraton El Conquistador Golf
& Tennis Resort. "I'm inspired by the beautiful environment
that we take for granted every day," he said. "I
am really fortunate to work at a property of this caliber."
And the feeling of appreciation is mutual said Matt Greene,
Hotel Manager, "The Westin La Paloma is a beautiful resort,
but it is employees like Wesley and our entire staff that
make the biggest impression on our guests."  |
