has been appointed Conference Planning Manager for the 171-room
North Maple Inn at Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Most recently
she was employed with an in-flight catering company and prior
to that worked as an event coordinator for the Somerset Patriots,
a local baseball team. DeMicco has served as Conference Planning
Manager at the Ocean Place Resort, Long Branch, New Jersey
and the Wyndham Orlando Resort.     |
TERRI
THOMPSON
has been promoted to General Manager of the Hilton Garden
Inn Tulsa Airport, a Hospitality Management Corporation (HMC)
property. She began her career as a housekeeping room inspector
with Holiday Inn in 1992 and moved on to Radisson in 1997
as Executive Housekeeper. In 1999 she helped opened the Hilton
Garden Inn Tulsa Airport as the Rooms Division Manager, and
after two years was made Assistant General Manager. Ms. Thompson
holds a Rooms Division Certification with the Educational
Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association; was
voted Manager of the Year for 2000 and 2002; and serves as
a mentor for the Business and Education Exchange Internship
Program at Tulsa Technology Center.   |
DEJAN
DJORDJEVIC
has been appointed General Manager of Hyatt Regency Almaty.
Djordjevic, a graduate of the University of Belgrade, joined
Hyatt International in October 1989 as Sales Manager for Hyatt
Regency Belgrade where he held management positions in marketing
and sales, resulting in a promotion to Director of Marketing
in February 1996. In November 1999, he was promoted to executive
assistant manager - Marketing for Hyatt Regency Almaty, and
to his most recent position of Resident Manager for Ararat
Park Hyatt Moscow in July 2002.   |
Holiday
Inn in Addison, Texas is completing its conversion to a full
service property and Hospitality Management Corporation (HMC)
recently announced the appointment of KATHLEEN MITCHELL
as the new Director of Sales and Marketing. Ms. Mitchell has
worked as a hospitality sales professional for several years,
having held management positions with Sunburst Hospitality,
Meristar Hotels, and Holiday Inn at locations in Texas and
North Carolina.

ALAN
BEDNOWITZ
has been appointed Vice President, Sales and Marketing for
Pyramid Advisors LLC (Pyramid), a full-service, Boston-based
development, management and advisory firm. Bednowitz was formerly
Vice President of Sales for Starcite, Inc. Bednowitz previously
served as senior director of national sales for multiple brands
of the Promus Hotels Corporation. He rose through the Doubletree
Hotels Corp ranks, which merged with Promus, as Director of
Marketing for several properties in Philadelphia and New York
City. He also held sales and marketing positions for Guest
Quarters Suite Hotels and was Director of Sales for a number
of hotels managed by the Peabody Hotel Group. Bednowitz holds
a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from Adelphi
University and is an active member of numerous professional
organizations.

CHRISTO
DIAMANDOPOULOS
was recently named General Manager of the Hotel Sari Pan Pacific
in Jakarta, Indonesia. He held the same position for six years
at the Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur and prior to that was at the
Pan Pacific Resort Pangkor Island (currently known as Pangkor
Island Beach Resort). Christo has thirty years of experience
in the industry, eleven years at the Kooralbyn Hotel Resort
in Queensland where he worked his way up to General Manager,
stints in properties in Australia, Japan and ten years in
Malaysia. A graduate in Hotel Management from Regency College
in South Australia, and he studied Microbiology and Psychology
at Flinders University, South Australia. Christo believes
in the philosophy of management through empowerment.   |
FREDRIC
"RIC" NICHOLSON
has been named Director of Sales and Marketing for the Adolphus
in Dallas, Texas. Nicholson most recently served as Director
of Group Sales for the 891-room Westin Seattle. His hospitality
career has spanned two decades and included executive posts
with Starwood, Sheraton, Hyatt, and Harrah's. A Hotel &
Restaurant Management graduate of San Francisco City College,
he is active in a number of professional organizations.   |
Getting
ready for the coming season, the Westin La Paloma Resort &
Spa has promoted and added additional staff to better serve
their cliental. CRAIG MARTIN has been named
Service Express Manager, overseeing all in-house guest calls
and services. The Westin's former Front Office Manager he
also served as the Director of Front Office at the Hilton
El Conquistador and as the Assistant Front Office Manager
at the Warwick International hotel in Denver Colorado. SELBY
HOUSTON has been appointed the Front Office Manager.
He was formerly La Paloma's Front Desk Manager and prior to
that he was assistant Front Office Manager at the Hilton El
Conquistador Front Desk Supervisor WESLEY BAGAROZZI
has been promoted to the position of Front Desk Manager. He
previously worked at the Sheraton El Conquistador as a Night
Auditor. He is a scholarship recipient from the Southern Arizona
Lodging & Resort Association, and was just recently honored
as the recipient of Arizona’s “Spirit of Service”
Tourism Award. SCOTT HAUSWIRTH has been promoted
to Executive Sous Chef for the resort. Previously he worked
for Ritz Carlton in Atlanta, Amelia Island Florida and most
recently was the Chef de Cuisine for Sequoia National Park.

Club has been promoted to Banquet Chef, prior to that he was
at The Westin Resort Hilton Head Island.  |
EDDIE
VERGARA,
will lead the team at Crestline's new Hilton Garden Inn Dallas
Market Centere. Vergara, a fifteen-year veteran was, formerly
the General Manager of the Hilton Garden Inn, Independence,
Missouri and under his leadership the hotel was recognized
as "The Most Improved Property" at their annual
meeting. A graduate of Florida International University with
a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management, he
began his career as a rooms manager at the Colonnade Hotel
in Coral Gables, Florida, and moved on to be Director of Operations
for the Bonaventure Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale. He
also held management positions at The Adams Mark Hotel in
Mobile and the Marriott Grand Hotel Resort and Golf Club in
Point Clear, Alabama, before joining Crestline. Vergara has
served on the Board of Directors for both the Kansas City
Hotel & Lodging Association and the City of Independence
Tourism Council.   |
JULIE
BRANDON
has been appointed Area Director of Sales and Marketing for
the Hilton Hotels in Boston. She most recently served as Regional
Director of Business Travel Sales for Hilton and Doubletree
hotels of Boston and will continue in this position as well
as directing the sales and marketing strategy for the Hilton
Boston Back Bay and the Hilton Boston Logan Airport. A graduate
of Syracuse University, she began her twelve-year career in
Boston as a rooms division assistant with the Four Season
Hotel and later joined the Guest Quarters Suite Hotel as a
sales and marketing associate. In August 1994, she became
the Assistant Manager of Banquets and Restaurant at the Drumlins
Country Club in Dewitt, New York. In 1996 she returned to
Boston joining the Westin Hotel Waltham-Boston as Corporate
Sales Manager and then became Senior Manager of Business Travel
Sales for the Omni Parker House in 1997. In April 2000 as
Director of Business Travel Sales for both the Hilton Boston
Back Bay and the Hilton Boston Logan Airport she was recognized
as the Cluster Lead. The following year Brandon became Regional
Director of Business Travel Sales for the Hilton and Doubletree
Hotels of Boston overseeing the business travel efforts of
seven hotels. In February 2002, she was awarded first place
in the Hilton Sales Leadership Academy.  |
DAVID
BARTEK
has been appointed the new General Manager of Atlanta Marriott
Gwinnett and returns to Crestline Hotels & Resorts management
company after serving in the same position at the Atlanta
Marriott Northwest. Bartek began his hospitality career in
1984 with Interstate Hotels Corporation in engineering. In
1997 he joined the Davidson Hotel Company where he became
a General Manager for the Nashville Crowne Plaza, followed
by the Kansas City Airport Hilton and the Tampa Airport Hilton.
In 1999 he joined Crestline Hotels and Resorts as the General
Manager of the Marriott Bay Point Resort, Florida and then
the Wyndham Hotel Salt Lake City. An active civic leader,
Bartek has been a past board member of the Panama City Beach,
FL Chamber of Commerce, and was the Chairman of the Transportation
Committee for the Bay County, FL, Chamber of Commerce.

ED
GRIFFIN, has been appointed the new President and
CEO of the Florida Hotel & Motel Association. Formerly
the president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International,
Griffin will succeed Thomas A. Waits, who has served with
the FHMA since 1979. Selected from a national search of 78
experienced candidates, Griffin's association management career
spans 28 years as Executive Director and President/CEO of
local, state, and international associations. According to
the press release, "his knowledge of legislative and
governmental affairs, coupled with his experiences with the
highest levels of government, is expected to play a key role
in ensuring a proactive and collaborative presence with the
Florida Legislature and the U.S. Congress."  |
AMY
LEDOUX
has been named Vice President of Meetings and Expositions
for the American Society of Association Executives and the
Center for Association Leadership. Ledoux has been a consultant
to ASAE for the past four years on a variety of projects,
most recently the ASAE Annual Meeting Exposition in Minneapolis.
Ledoux has been in the hotel and meeting management field
for nineteen years, starting her career on the hotel side
and then moving on to association and corporate meeting management.  |

SPACES |
The
PAN PACIFIC GLENMARIE KUALA LUMPUR is celebrating
the resort’s tenth anniversary in December, 2004 with
the opening of Malaysia’s first total therapeutic Spa.
The 20,000 square foot facility will offer a range of massages
and treatments that are based on therapies from both Asia
and Europe. With everything from hydro bath, affusion shower
and feature pool to hot and chill therapy pools, sauna and
steam room, the Spa will also feature the revolutionary MEDEC
Bio resonance System (BRS), which is designed for the treatment
of chronic and degenerative diseases, sports injuries and
energy deficiencies. Twelve luxury duplex apartments have
been added to the resorts inventory of 291 rooms.

HURRICANE
UPDATE |
Nassau/Paradise
Island were fully operational within the week of
the storm with major resorts open including Atlantis-Paradise
Island, British Colonial Hilton, Radisson Cable Beach &
Golf Resort and Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace
Casino. After completing cosmetic repairs, Sandals Royal Bahamian
will re-open on September 25 and SuperClubs Breezes will re-open
on September 30. On the Out Islands most tourism facilities
have returned to normal service. Grand Bahama Island
was significantly affected by Hurricane Frances and Grand
Bahama International Airport remains closed until power is
restored. In Freeport, the Best Western Castaways Resort is
fully operational. The Sheraton at Our Lucaya will re-open
on October 1 and The Westin at Our Lucaya will re-open on
November 1. Assessments are still pending for the Royal Oasis
Golf Resort & Casino, Pelican Bay Hotel and Old Bahama
Bay Resort. Jamaica, the major cities and
the resort regions of Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Port
Antonio and Negril, have all reported that water, power and
electricity are being restored and most major hotels have
reported limited or no structural damage. News from the South
Coast is still forthcoming. Montego Bay airport is now open
for business and Kingston airport will be reopened as soon
as the road (s) to the airport becomes accessible. The Cayman
Islands although better prepared because of strict
building codes the islands reported heavy water damage and
we have limited reports at this time. Barbados
Hotel and Tourism Association confirmed that the vast majority
of membership is fully operational and both the cruise terminal
and airport are open. Martinique and Saint
Lucia operations are normal. Saint Vincent
and the Grenadines was impacted severely
by Hurricane Ivan However, there have been no reports of significant
damage to any hotels. The airport is open, telephone service
is normal, the water supply is intact but many areas remain
without electricity. In Trinidad business
has returned to normal. In Tobago, preliminary
reports indicate that there has been no major damage to the
tourism infrastructure. Many areas are still without electricity
or telephone service but the airport reopened this morning.
None of Aruba’s hotels/resorts have
been evacuated and all properties on island have contingency
plans in place to assist guests.

raise money to assist member countries impacted by both Hurricane
